Context of Lesson: This is the day before the unit tests. Students will be encouraged to ask any questions they have about any of the assignments we've done or anything confusing them. We will be reviewing for the exam by going over the earlier assignments from the unit, and

Materials

  • Teacher
    • White/Black board & chalk or markers
  • Student
    • All materials from labs, homeworks, notes, given throughout this unit.

Objectives:

  • Students will recall and apply concepts learned throughout this unit.
  • Students will participate in review activities that help them

Instruction:

  • Opening:

    • At the start of the lesson as students are entering the room they will be told to make sure they have all their materials, because they will need them for the Jeopardy game to review.
      • A list of homework's and relevant work the student should have will be written on the board.
  • Engagement:

    • I will ask students to look over the list of materials, anything they don't have or think they may have the wrong answers on I will have them discuss with their lab partners(they should be sitting near each other and not cause a lot of chaos doing this).
    • I will have a brief lecture after students are done with that, going over the main topics and reminding students what they will be tested on.
      • Matter & different types of substances
      • physical properties
      • chemical properties
      • physical changes
      • chemical changes
      • using these qualities to identify a substance
    • The remainder of the class will be spent playing Jeopardy using these topics and vocab or questions on each when that topic is chosen.
      • The class will be broken into 4 groups
      • The winning team will be awarded 2 points on the final test.
  • Closure:

    • Students will be reminded that their homework is to study for the test.
    • I will also ask if students have any problems, questions, or anything they are unclear about, and will spend the last several minutes of class hopefully answering everyones questions.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed informally during this period. I will be taking notes on specific questions and areas that students had trouble with on the jeopardy game or during the Q&A opportunities that I provide. Students will formally be assessed next class.
